From 2022 to 2023, we realized the Role Play Locations exhibition that is part of the Center for Comics and Interactive Narrative in Lodz, Poland, which is about the zone of computer game developers. Visitors can take on the role of not only programmers, but also screenwriters, level designers and even indie game developers. All this within specially arranged rooms, filled with interactive stations and special interactive tasks.
As part of the project, we made a design for seven rooms, and later implemented it, creating an uncommon permanent exhibition that allows visitors to feel like members of a real game development team. The exhibition included the supply of AV equipment – monitors, computers, sound system, projectors, creation of the exhibition scenario, content and application, along with an audio guide for the disabled. For the Center for Comics and Interactive Narrative, as part of the order, we also carried out the arrangement of players’ rooms, which included the creation of station buildings in accordance with the design and purpose of the room. Particularly noteworthy is the 1.9 Level Design/Level Artist room, which takes visitors into an innovative world full of interactive solutions and non-standard arrangement stands such as an imitation spaceship and a level mock-up. The mock-up is a table with a model embedded in the tabletop and overhead projectors that map images onto the model. Half of the model symbolizes the design of abstract spaces and the focus on mapping out the player’s paths and opportunities. The same shapes on the other side of the table saturate and fragment receiving detail and textures – the result of a person working as a Level Artist.
TDC Polska was also responsible for providing and implementing the content and exhibition management system, providing interactive tables, dubbing booths, 3D models, prints, neon signs and scenographic lighting for the exhibition.
